What was your favourite memory in UCC?

The four years I have spent in UCC were one of the most memorable times for me, as I was working on very leading research area but at the same time, I was brewing the long-lasting friendship with amazing people.

During the early days at UCC, I was welcomed by everyone and the inclusive environment from all the societies and club helped me to settle down very quickly. Every day I spent in UCC and Cork were memorable. The trips to various locations in Ireland was mesmerizing and the scenic places helped me to develop another passion: photography. During my stay, for the first time, UCC saw celebration of Indian festivals like Holi, Diwali on campus.

How did your time at UCC help you to get to where you are now?

When I joined UCC for my PhD, I was little worried about how my career path looked like and where to seek help for my future career. The professors in UCC have several industrial projects which helped me to understand the requirements of the industry and how to work in fast paced environment. After my first year, I started feeling more comfortable on handling multiple projects and on presenting the work to larger audience with confidence. As I grew as a researcher, I was able to initiate the technical discussions within the team and with external stakeholders. During the last year of my PhD, as everyone does, I started looking for opportunity elsewhere and I wanted to contribute more in the industry

What is your advice to current UCC students? What person/people at UCC had the most positive influence on you?

My advice to the students coming to UCC will be to:

  • Keep your goal in mind: it is very important to stay focus
  • Keep Working hard: getting success is process
  • Know right people
  • Make new international friends: the international environment UCC has benefited in discussing the culture, diversity and inclusion.

Dr. Lekha is the best person to reach for, she has all the information you need to settle down quickly and adjusting with new environment. International Student Office organizes several events throughout the year, Dr. Christopher Shepard helped me and several other international students.

Were you involved in any Clubs or Societies?

I have been part of various clubs and societies and I was one of the founding members of UCC Indian Society. During my stay, for the first time, UCC saw celebration of Indian festivals like Holi, Diwali on campus.
